Anybody who reads my reviews a few times, soon learns that Cats Reign Supreme in my life... especially my own... Soooooo, I have a habit of automatically assuming that a book with a cat on the front cover is going to interest me...I now have learned differently. Actually, I have no idea what the story line is...the writing was so bad, even though I tried several times to proceed, that my mind just refused to acknowledge this in comparison to all the great books that I've consumed...My apologies to the Black Sheba on the cover... she tried to tell me with her eyes--do I look like a "cute" cat?!!!.I am not! But after she said that, she admitted that since I already had her picture in my files, that she knew why I wanted to check it out...
The name on the book, Shane Ross, on the Amazon site says he is the Editor... Interestingly, there is no biographical information along with the book, nor, when I found the reference, did I find anything on him since the site had been suspended... Also interestingly I found a man on LinkedIn with this name and title...but nothing on this book...Identity Theft??? I wondered...
In any event, I immediately started to think about the rule of making every word move the book forward... Aside from the grammatical and spelling errors, there was a consistent use of entire phrases that needed to be deleted to tighten the narrative, even with how short the book is already.
Ok, again aside from the writing issues, let's talk about cats in a mystery. According to everything I found on the Amazon site, this book is supposed to be unique...NOT! Anybody who writes a cat mystery "should" be totally aware that there is an entire genre and so many thousands of this type of book, most of which I've read, that we all know about writing and talking about cats...Mixed Breed? For shame... Green fur...Yikes! Cats in books are identified by name only...in the description, we learn about her heritage, markings, etc., but if we really need to know how the colors look, we get a picture, otherwise, forget it...The descriptions are so involved that we lose sight of the story... P.S. my cats were selected purely because of the front cover cat and that the cats were in trees...LOL! I did not find any green cats...(see my blog)
You can tell the writer is not a cat lover...By the time you have introduced the cats, we should know each of their names, instead of trying to differentiate them by their color... or "the other cat"...
Can you understand why I was disgusted? Of course, any professional novel writer would immediately understand...And a cat mystery writer!?! They would faint from the five-star reviews this book has already got! Let's stop accepting books of this caliber...the only reason I wouldn't return it is because I needed to document what I found--I had no guilt giving this the rank it deserves...
PLEASE if you don't trust my judgment on a cat mystery book, read the sample shown...If you don't mind the writing...go for it, but don't ever tell anybody I recommended it to you...

The Cute Detectives Murder at Melbrock edition by Shane Ross Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I really enjoyed reading this book; it was simply amazing! It has a witty and unique plot, and has an amazing concept. I was hooked onto the book right from the first page. The murder mystery was simply thrilling, and the different perspectives that the book offers adds an exceptional twist to it. The book is not generic at all, and offers a different cup of tea. This book had me occupied for a good couple of hours.
I have to say, the author has carefully embedded different aspects to create a murder mystery which takes us on a roller coaster ride of emotions. Shane Ross has blended action, humor and mystery all together to create an AMAZING book. It is a book that you cannot miss out on!
The book jumps right into the action at the beginning of the story. An accident happens in a suspicious way. The police gets involved to try and unravel the mystery; and so does the reader. The murder mystery takes the reader on a journey to uncover the circumstances surrounding a death, but that is just the beginning. More crime, action and mystery follows are the crimes connected? And if so, how?
The cute detectives, a few cats, gives us an inside view. Did I mention it's not just a murder mystery? It does stretch the imagination when we witness hidden truths and activities through the eyes of cats. Allow yourself to just go with it and enjoy the antics of the cats for some light relief and entertainment in the serious business of solving crimes. I found myself laughing a few times at what the cats are up to.
What I liked about the story especially, is that it does keep you guessing about what's happening and how things will turn out. Read the book and all will be revealed!
When I read the description of the book before I purchased, one thing grabbed my attention. Humorous dialogues, it said. I love the mixture of mystery and humor but the dialogues were not what I had expected, in a good way. After a few pages, I realized what the description meant because the story took an unexpected turn and became unfolding through a group of cats' efforts to help solve it.
The mystery part was quite clever as well and it was puzzle within a puzzle kind f story. I read it in one sitting, it was very entertaining. I like the author's way of story telling, it was short and to the point without boring unnecessary lines that I dislike a lot in mystery books nowadays. A fast paced story that quickly unfolds in an unexpected way, and the best part is, no cats were harmed!
I really recommend this book. It was fun to read.
"I thoroughly enjoyed this intriguing mystery told from a cat's perspective, as a team of cat's investigate murders. My attention is held strong from the beginning. I am drawn into this mystery from the start as it is different than anything I have ever read -in a good way. The writer draws you in with great attention to detail.
I love to read and was completely satisfied with my experience in this nice, clean, humorous book. I love the team work presented through the cats. I also love that the cats are presented to have diverse personalities, and yet find a way to work together to get to the bottom of the mystery.
Charles, Toby, Juliet and Melody are cute and clever cats that tag team quiet well. They kinda have this love hate relationship going on as they speculate about the reality of what has happened. This book will take you on a wild ride filled with imagination. The writing style is smooth and laced with good humor.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a book told out of the usual manner, but in a clever and mind boggling way that holds your attention from beginning to end."
